Detectives with the Suffolk County Police Fifth Squad say the driver of a 2012 Nissan Rogue was heading northbound on Coates Avenue when the vehicle struck a pedestrian in the road in front of 1135 Coates Avenue in Holbrook on Monday, Nov. 4 around 6:15 p.m.

The pedestrian, identified as Joseph Zuniga, 31, of Oyster Bay, was transported to Stony Brook University Hospital via Holbrook Ambulance for treatment of serious but non-life-threatening injuries, police say.

The driver, identified as Hally Smith, 62, of Mt. Sinai, was not injured, according to police.

The vehicle was impounded for a safety check. Anyone with information about this incident is urged to call the Fifth Squad at (631) 854-8552.
